"...his brain shaken out of its natural position; which we commonly suppose to be a distemper, and call by the name of madness or frenzy."
-Jonathan Swift, A Tale of a Tub-

Name: Antonin Dolohov
Date of birth: August 13, 1950
Bloodline: Pureblood; Russian
Former House: Slytherin
Physical character description: Antonin’s appearance is rather less alluring than it was before Azkaban, though he is still decent-looking to some. Possibly. His hairline has receded considerably, and his teeth are less than attractive. He does manage to look a bit younger than he is, by sheer luck more than anything else. His build is slender, and he has become somewhat emaciated. Height at is six feet even. His eyes are a faded-looking green, hair being a medium brown. At one time, he walked lithely, with a marked grace. His walk has become more awkward, owing partially to a wound he received before entering Azkaban but mostly to his further lack of care and control of mind.
Personal history: Antonin was born to Mikhail and Irina Dolohov. His birth had not been expected, but was not frowned upon, either. Antonin had only one sibling; a sister by the name of Sonia, who was two years older than he. The family line was strictly Russian. Antonin’s parents were, in fact, also cousins, prompted to marry to preserve the line. As the two got along well enough, and as neither cared much one way or another for anything, they agreed to the marriage readily. Both spent some time living in Russia, but moved with the majority of the Dolohov family to England when Russia became dreary to them. Antonin’s parents spent much of their lives acting as they pleased, living off of the family’s money. They held the idea of pureblood supremacy because they had heard of it again and again, and it struck them as being immensely romantic. Power was, after all, to be sought after; especially when it could be obtained easily.
As a boy, Antonin learned quite a bit about independence, and at the same time about using money without earning it. He attended Hogwarts when the time to do so came about, and was a member of Slytherin. He had been interested in the Dark Arts before entering school; like so many other pureblood families, his parents had many dark objects of interest lying about the house. Once he was introduced to the Arts, he learned what he could about them (this would be the only interest, save for joining with the Death Eaters, that he would ever truly follow through). He cared little for most of his classes in school, and performed at an average (if not lower) level in most classes. In most cases, he simply refused to apply himself.
After leaving Hogwarts, he returned home. Searching for a job seemed a quaint idea, but hardly worth the time it would take to apply and work. Antonin spent his time doing as he pleased; roaming, visiting others, inviting others over, and so on. He worked with the Dark Arts on his own or with whatever close acquaintances he was keeping at the time. When alone, he worked on crafting new spells, searching for one that would entirely suit his satisfaction. His parents cared little about what he did. They spoke vaguely of arranging a marriage for him, but in the end discarded the matter. They saw no need to put the effort forward; why should they worry about carrying on the family line, so long as they were well off? Their son, in most matters, applied himself as poorly as they did; he was unable even to keep any steady relationship. Their daughter had appeared mentally unbalanced from a young age; as she became older, signs of a deep paranoia and uncontrollable dementia. For this reason, she was not put into school and instead spent the whole of her life around the home.
Antonin did find a more structured path to take when he was invited to become a Death Eater. He was, in fact, one of the earliest to join with Voldemort. It was an entirely welcomed task, able to fill his time; best of all, it involved the Dark Arts, and called for a rather deranged sense of mind. The ideas of pureblood supremacy seemed as romantic to him as to his parents. He joined eagerly and proved himself worthy enough. His love of the dark arts and his streak of malice certainly helped him along. He committed a great many crimes, tortures and murders aplenty, and was caught around the time that most Death Eaters were taken.
The years in Azkaban did little save for prompting his own brand of madness into further stages. His malice and abandon grew, and day by day he would pace, mutter, make up phrases and songs in his mind, often losing track of the days. He had never bothered much with happiness, and the dementors thus had little to take from him. While Antonin was in Azkaban, his sister and parents died; the sister by suicide, the parents having killed each other out of a mix of boredom and far too many drinks. Antonin heard whispers of this and felt little for it; certainly, he was not shocked. His family had in the past been prone to random bouts of violence; this stemmed from their general apathy.
When finally released from Azkaban, Antonin relished the joy of freedom and was glad to hear that the Death Eaters would reign once more. Murder sounded a great deal of fun to him; what better way to celebrate freedom than to destroy?
Personality: Antonin is unstable; more so after the stay at Azkaban than ever before. He controls himself well enough in some areas, but at many times he acts without thinking, and flings himself into his tasks as a Death Eater with excessive passion. This overeager attitude can land him into difficulties; he has tried to control his actions better, but often gives this effort up soon after beginning. Antonin’s ability to reason is flawed; he cannot concentrate long on a situation or remain interested in it. When he does reason, he adds in factors that are of no account, often creating such factors for his own amusement. Thus, an attempt to reason will often turn into a method of amusement.
He embraces violence; in his mind, it is good fun. Pain is more enjoyable than harmful to him, though he becomes annoyed if any strike leaves a visible mark on his skin. Antonin’s cruelty is often entirely absent or random. He might see a random wizard and, without warning or provocation, attack if it suits his fancy. He feels that most people deserve whatever pain falls onto them, and has at times made it his goal to allow everyone the “pleasure” of a painful experience. He enjoys watching those who are in pain, enjoys prolonging agony when he can.
Much like his parents, Antonin has difficulty applying himself to nearly any task for an extended period of time. His enthusiasm wanes quickly, and when he loses interest in something he simply drops it. This apathy can be seen in his relations with most people; he takes interest for only so long before the effort seems to much and others call his attention more strongly. He also tends to use money without thinking about it; the money is there, he has quite a lot through inheritance, and he therefore has no real need to think about it. It is another of the details that he ignores and can hold no interest in.
He is quite vain, and enjoys looking at beauty. He is somewhat irritated by the changes that did occur in Azkaban, but has mostly succeeding in convincing himself that he still looks very good, that even thinning hair looks attractive if on his head. Furthermore, he is nearly always ready for a romp of affection, however intimate or short. He can love most anything, and will take what comes his way; pickiness is unknown to him. (Give him an owl, and he’ll be perfectly all right.) He figures that all things are more or less the same, though some are admittedly more beautiful. More often than not, Antonin likes to entwine love and pain.
His strongest desires at present are to hunt, to attack, to torture, to continue with the Dark Arts, to roam freely and at his will, and to find something to screw. He will continue with the Death Eaters as long as is possible, fighting more for his own interests than for any group desire (though, again, he adores the idea of pureblood supremacy). He is fairly reliable only as a Death Eater; this because he likes the idea of the group and enjoys the Dark Arts. When dealing with people outside of tasks for the Death Eaters, he can be rather unreliable, remembering things selectively and doing what he pleases.
Antonin sees himself as a man doing what he wishes, fulfilling his dreams. He sees nothing wrong in his actions, and feels that he does not need to justify himself to anyone. He enjoys what he does, and therefore he feels that he must be doing what is right for him. In any case, he does indeed believe the idea of pureblood supremacy; this only prompts his actions further.
